Tart cherries are naturally rich in melatonin, a hormone responsible for sleepiness. Tart cherries also contain a good amount of tryptophan and anthocyanins, two compounds that may help the body create melatonin and lengthen its effects. Research shows that supplementing with tart cherry juice increases levels of melatonin and helps to improve sleep quality and duration. Tart cherries can also help with muscle soreness, arthritis, and gout. All of these things can prevent you from getting a good night’s rest.
Lemon Balm is known for its sedative qualities. Lemon Balm has been used for centuries to calm and relax the body to promote restful sleep.
